Death as a Part of Life – Accepting and Transcending the Inevitable

The greatest mystery for most continues to be our inevitable death. Many fear this concept and try their best to avoid the topic until the day of their passing. It is never easy to think about death and even less so to embrace it. Some people are fine with the idea of their own passing, while the thought of a loved one shedding their mortal coils terrifies all. This is understandable, for the sheer image of Archangel Azrael, Santa Muerte, the Grim Reaper and other beings of death is overwhelming enough for many to look away quickly. Death continues to shake up feelings within humanity that most prefer to leave out of sight and mind. Humanity has devised unique and fascinating ways in order to revere the dead. The sheer diversity of burial and honouring the dead is immense. However, to many spiritually inclined persons, the understanding of their own temporarily can aid in giving them a purpose to life. In this article, various ways in which human society deals with death will be discussed, along with a spiritual application of this great inevitability.

Creating a Personal Ritual – Part 2

A personal ritual is a source of creativity and sincere power designed by the user itself. In part 1, I discussed what exactly a personal ritual entails and had a look at the linguistic, artistic and visualisation factors that one can incorporate into its design. The focus was on the creative power of the self in designing a poem, chant or prayer. The power of artistic expression and visualisation was also discussed. In this article, external and physical aspects of a personal ritual will be discussed. This includes movement, manipulation of bodily energy and the use of external physical items, such as incense, oils, candles, etc. As stated in part 1, the design of a personal ritual is up to the creativity and will of the user. Will and sincerity in the ritual remain the primary source of its power, while the linguistic, visual and physical factors only serve to reinforce the energetic power of the ritual.

Creating a Personal Ritual – Part 1

The diversity of religious, occult, community and personal ritual is evident in the colourful display of human society and history. We have ritualised our lives not simply on a spiritual level, but in all facets of it. We conduct rituals in the name of our deities, self-improvement, health, cycles of time, major events, new life, inevitable death and countless more. It provides humanity with an expression. This expression aids our mind, body and spirit in coping, adjusting and mastering the challenges of our collective and personal realities. In a religious sense, we understand there to be a spiritual power and right to these rituals, where unseen forces take on the duty to empower our intended needs, hopes and wants. In a psychological sense, we understand the power that this intent and mindset can have in shaping our perception and actions. There is a principle of magnetism subtly veiled and powered by our will that shapes our experience of the past, present and future. Whether we are aware of it or not, a ritual creates a ripple of subtle energies that permeate through space.
